Linear Ordering Problem: Time for a Change
Fabrizio Fagiolo, Marco Baioletti, Valentino Santucci
The Linear Ordering Problem (LOP) is a fundamental combinatorial optimization problem with important applications in areas such as economics, social choice, and machine learning. I…
Theoretical and Empirical Analysis of Lehmer Codes to Search Permutation Spaces with Evolutionary Algorithms
Yuxuan Ma, Valentino Santucci, Carsten Witt
A suitable choice of the representation of candidate solutions is crucial for the efficiency of evolutionary algorithms and related metaheuristics. We focus on problems in permutat…
A Performance Analysis of Basin Hopping Compared to Established Metaheuristics for Global Optimization
Marco Baioletti, Valentino Santucci, Marco Tomassini
During the last decades many metaheuristics for global numerical optimization have been proposed. Among them, Basin Hopping is very simple and straightforward to implement, althoug…
Doubly Stochastic Matrix Models for Estimation of Distribution Algorithms
Valentino Santucci, Josu Ceberio
Problems with solutions represented by permutations are very prominent in combinatorial optimization. Thus, in recent decades, a number of evolutionary algorithms have been propose…
