On the Origin of Abundance Variations in the Milky Way's High- Plateau
Tawny Sit, David H. Weinberg, Emily J. Griffith
Using multi-element abundances from the SDSS APOGEE survey, we investigate the origin of abundance variations in Milky Way (MW) disk stars on the "high- plateau," with $-0.5\leq…
Many elements matter: Detailed abundance patterns reveal star-formation and enrichment differences among Milky Way structural components
Emily J. Griffith, David W. Hogg, Sten Hasselquist +5
Many nucleosynthetic channels create the elements, but two-parameter models characterized by and Fe nonetheless predict stellar abundances in the Galactic disk to accuracies of…
The Milky Way Radial Metallicity Gradient as an Equilibrium Phenomenon: Why Old Stars are Metal-Rich
James W. Johnson, David H. Weinberg, Guillermo A. Blanc +12
Metallicities of both gas and stars decline toward large radii in spiral galaxies, a trend known as the radial metallicity gradient. We quantify the evolution of the metallicity gr…
2-process Model and Residual Abundance Analysis of the Milky Way Massive Satellites
Sten Hasselquist, Christian R. Hayes, Emily J. Griffith +4
The ``2-process Model'' is a promising technique for interpreting stellar chemical abundance data from large-scale surveys (e.g., SDSS-IV/V, GALAH), enabling more quantitative empi…
