Milky Way disc & Bulge in situ populations: ESO white paper - Expanding horizons call
M. Bergemann, G. Kordopatis, G. Casali +11
The formation and evolution of the Milky Way's disc, bar, and bulge remain fundamentally limited by the lack of a contiguous, Galaxy-wide, high-precision chemo-dynamical map. Key o…
Attempting an accurate age estimate of the open cluster NGC 6633 using CoRoT and Gaia
K. Brogaard, A. Miglio, T. Arentoft +5
Asteroseismology of solar-like oscillations in giant stars allow the derivation of their masses and radii. For members of open clusters, this provides an age of the cluster that sh…
Tracing the Milky Way: Calibrating chemical ages with high-precision Kepler data
G. Casali, J. Montalbàn, A. Miglio +10
Chemical clocks offer a powerful tool for estimating stellar ages from spectroscopic surveys. We present a new detailed spectroscopic analysis of 68 Kepler red giant stars to provi…
Advancing accuracy in age determinations of old-disk stars using an oscillating red giant in an eclipsing binary
J. S. Thomsen, A. Miglio, K. Brogaard +26
The study of resonant oscillation modes in low-mass red giant branch stars enables their ages to be inferred with exceptional (10%) precision, unlocking the possibility to re…
