The Orientation of Satellite Galaxies: Evidence of Elongation in the Direction of the Host
Ingolfur Agustsson, Tereasa G. Brainerd
We use the fourth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to investigate the orientations of 4289 satellite galaxies with respect to their hosts. The orientation of the satell…
Anisotropic Distribution of SDSS Satellite Galaxies: Planar (not Polar) Alignment
Tereasa G. Brainerd
The distribution of satellite galaxies relative to isolated host galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is investigated. Host-satellite systems are selected using three di…
A Comparison of Simple Mass Estimators for Galaxy Clusters
Tereasa G. Brainerd, Candace Oaxaca Wright, David M. Goldberg +1
High-resolution N-body simulations are used to investigate systematic trends in the mass profiles and total masses of clusters as derived from 3 simple estimators: (1) the weak gra…
A Constant Clustering Amplitude for Faint Galaxies?
Tereasa G. Brainerd, Ian Smail
The angular clustering of faint field galaxies is investigated using deep imaging (I~25) obtained with the 10-m Keck-I telescope. The autocorrelation function is consistent with w(…
