A remark about dihedral group actions on spheres

Ian Hambleton

We show that a finite dihedral group does not act pseudofreely and locally linearly on a 2k-dimensional sphere, if k > 1. This answers a question of R. S. Kulkarni from 1982.

Conjugation spaces and 4-manifolds

Ian Hambleton, Jean-Claude Hausmann

We show that 4-dimensional conjugation manifolds are all obtained from branched 2-fold coverings of knotted surfaces in Z/2-homology 4-spheres.

Surgery obstructions on closed manifolds and the Inertia subgroup

Ian Hambleton

The Wall surgery obstruction groups have two interesting geometrically defined subgroups, consisting of the surgery obstructions between closed manifolds, and the inertial elements…

On Certain 5-manifolds with Fundamental Group of Order 2

Ian Hambleton, Yang Su

In this paper, an explicit classification result for certain 5-manifolds with fundamental group Z/2 is obtained. These manifolds include total spaces of circle bundles over simply-…
