Evidence for overdensity around z_em > 4 quasars from the proximity effect
Rodney Nascimento Guimaraes, Patrick Petitjean, Emmanuel Beaumont Rollinde +5
We study the density field around z_em > 4 quasars using high quality medium spectral resolution ESI-Keck spectra (R~4300, SNR > 25) of 45 high-redshift quasars selected from a tot…
New Damped Lya Metallicities from ESI Spectroscopy of Five Palomar Sky Survey Quasars
Jason X. Prochaska, Sandra Castro, S. G. Djorgovski
This paper presents chemical abundance measurements for 12 new z>3 damped Lya systems discovered toward five quasars from the Palomar Sky Survey. We determine HI column densities f…
Peculiar Broad Absorption Line Quasars found in DPOSS
Robert J. Brunner, Patrick B. Hall, S. George Djorgovski +10
With the recent release of large (i.e., > hundred million objects), well-calibrated photometric surveys, such as DPOSS, 2MASS, and SDSS, spectroscopic identification of important t…
High resolution infrared spectra of bulge globular clusters: Liller~1 and NGC 6553
Livia Origlia, R. Michael Rich, Sandra Castro
Using the NIRSPEC spectrograph at Keck II, we have obtained echelle spectra covering the range 1.5-1.8um for 2 of the brightest giants in Liller 1 and NGC 6553, old metal rich glob…
