$Z_{p}$ -torus actions on positively curved manifolds

Muhammad Abdullah, Catherine Searle

In this article, we study closed, positively curved $n$ -manifolds that admit an effective, isometric $Z_{p}^{r}$ -action with a fixed point, where $p$ is an odd prime. For all…

Lengths of Orthogonal Geodesic Chords on Riemannian Manifolds

Isabel Beach, Haydeé Contreras-Peruyero, Erin Griffin +2

Let $N$ be a closed submanifold of a complete manifold, $M$ . Then under certain topological conditions, there exists an orthogonal geodesic chord beginning and ending in $N$ . In th…

On Fixed-Point Sets of $Z_{2}$ -Tori in Positive Curvature

Austin Bosgraaf, Christine Escher, Catherine Searle

In recent work of Kennard, Khalili Samani, and the last author, they generalize the Half-Maximal Symmetry Rank result of Wilking for torus actions on positively curved manifolds to…

Linear Bounds for the Lengths of Geodesics on Manifolds With Curvature Bounded Below

Isabel Beach, Haydeé Contreras Peruyero, Regina Rotman +1

Let $M$ be a simply connected Riemannian manifold in $M_{k, v}^{D} (n)$ , the space of closed Riemannian manifolds of dimension $n$ with sectional curvature bounded below by $…

Diameters of 3-Sphere Quotients

W. Dunbar, S. Greenwald, J. McGowan +1

Let G, a subset of O(4), act isometrically on the 3-sphere. In this article we calculate a lower bound for the diameter of the quotient spaces $S^{3} / G$ . We find it to be ${1/2}\arcc…
