Estimating the Chromospheric Absorption of Transition Region Moss Emission
Bart De Pontieu, Viggo H. Hansteen, Scott W. McIntosh +1
Many models for coronal loops have difficulty explaining the observed EUV brightness of the transition region, which is often significantly less than theoretical models predict. Th…
Twisted flux tube emergence from the convection zone to the corona II: Later states
J. Martinez-Sykora, V. Hansteen, M. Carlsson
3D simulations of magnetic flux emergence are carried out in a computational domain spanning the upper layers of the convection zone to the lower corona. We use the Oslo Staggered…
Observing the Roots of Solar Coronal Heating - in the Chromosphere
Bart De Pontieu, Scott W. McIntosh, Viggo H. Hansteen +1
The Sun's corona is millions of degrees hotter than its 5,000 K photosphere. This heating enigma is typically addressed by invoking the deposition at coronal heights of non-thermal…
Observational Signatures of Simulated Reconnection Events in the Solar Chromosphere and Transition Region
L. Heggland, B. De Pontieu, V. H. Hansteen
We present the results of numerical simulations of wave-induced magnetic reconnection in a model of the solar atmosphere. In the magnetic field geometry we study in this article, t…
