Einstein Probe discovery of the magnetar EP J223759.5+531421
N. Rea, F. Coti Zelati, A. Borghese +44
We report the discovery and early outburst evolution of the new Galactic magnetar EP J223759.5+531421, detected by the Einstein Probe Wide-field X-ray Telescope on 2026 June 28. Fo…
GRB241107A: a Giant Flare from a close-by extragalactic Magnetar?
James Craig Rodi, Dominik Patryk Pacholski, Sandro Mereghetti +5
We report the results on the short gamma-ray burst GRB 241107A, obtained with the IBIS instrument on board the INTEGRAL satellite. The burst had a duration of about 0.2 s, a fluenc…
INTEGRAL search for magnetar giant flares from the Virgo Cluster and in nearby galaxies with high star formation rate
Dominik P. Pacholski, Edoardo Arrigoni, Sandro Mereghetti +1
Giant flares from magnetars can reach, for a fraction of a second, luminosities greater than 10 erg s in the hard X-ray/soft -ray range. This makes them visible at…
A magnetar giant flare in the nearby starburst galaxy M82
Sandro Mereghetti, Michela Rigoselli, Ruben Salvaterra +32
Giant flares, short explosive events releasing up to 10 erg of energy in the gamma-ray band in less than one second, are the most spectacular manifestation of magnetars, you…
