The macroscopic contact angle of water on ice
W. Sarlin, D. V. Papa, R. Grivet +4
Wettability quantifies the affinity of a liquid over a substrate, and determines whether the surface is repellent or not. When both the liquid and the solid phases are made of the…
Freezing receding contact lines
Rodolphe Grivet, Axel Huerre, Thomas Séon +2
We investigate experimentally the receding of a contact line when a Peltier module is pulled out of a water bath at constant speed, while a ice layer is also growing at constant sp…
Role of melting and solidification in the spreading of an impacting water drop
Wladimir Sarlin, Rodolphe Grivet, Julien Xu +3
The present study reports experiments of water droplet impacting on ice or on a cold metallic substrate, with the aim of understanding the effect of phase change on the impingement…
Making superhydrophobic splashes by surface cooling
R. Grivet, A. Huerre, T. Séon +1
We study experimentally the enhancement of splashing due to solidification. Investigating the impact of water drops on dry smooth surfaces, we show that the transition velocity to…
Contact Line Catch Up by Growing Ice Crystals
R. Grivet, A. Monier, A. Huerre +2
The effect of freezing on contact line motion is a scientific challenge in the understanding of the solidification of capillary flows. In this letter, we experimentally investigate…
