ASTRO-H White Paper - AGN Reflection
C. Reynolds, Y. Ueda, H. Awaki +9
X-ray observations provide a powerful tool to probe the central engines of active galactic nuclei (AGN). A hard X-ray continuum is produced from deep within the accretion flow onto…
ASTRO-H White Paper - AGN Winds
J. S. Kaastra, Y. Terashima, T. Kallman +23
In this white paper we describe the prospects for ASTRO-H for the study of outflows from active galactic nuclei. The most important breakthroughs in this field are expected to aris…
The NuSTAR spectrum of Mrk 335: Extreme relativistic effects within 2 gravitational radii of the event horizon?
M. L. Parker, D. R. Wilkins, A. C. Fabian +18
We present 3-50 keV NuSTAR observations of the AGN Mrk 335 in a very low flux state. The spectrum is dominated by very strong features at the energies of the iron line at 5-7 keV a…
Caught in the act: Measuring the changes in the corona that cause the extreme variability of 1H 0707-495
D. R. Wilkins, E. Kara, A. C. Fabian +1
The X-ray spectra of the narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy, 1H 0707-495, obtained with XMM-Newton, from time periods of varying X-ray luminosity are analysed in the context of understan…
