Investigating the Efficacy of Topologically Derived Time-Series for Flare Forecasting. I. Dataset Preparation
Thomas Williams, Christopher B. Prior, David MacTaggart
The accurate forecasting of solar flares is considered a key goal within the solar physics and space weather communities. There is significant potential for flare prediction to be…
The magnetic topology of AR13664 leading to its first halo CME
David MacTaggart, Tom Williams, OPM Aslam
In the first half of May 2024, the solar active region (AR)13664 was responsible for generating the strongest geomagnetic storm in over 20 years, through an enhanced production of…
Photospheric signatures of CME onset
Aslam Ottupara, David MacTaggart, Tom Williams +2
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are solar eruptions that involve large-scale changes to the magnetic topology of an active region. There exists a range of models for CME onset which…
On turbulent magnetic reconnection: fast and slow mean steady-states
Sage Stanish, David MacTaggart
We investigate a model of turbulent magnetic reconnection introduced by Higashimori, Yokoi and Hoshino (Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 255001) and show that the classic two-dimensional, ste…
