Understanding coronal rain dynamics through a point-mass model
Andrew Hillier, Ramon Oliver, David Martínez-Gómez
Observations and simulations of coronal rain show that as cold and dense plasma falls through the corona it initially undergoes acceleration by gravity before the downward velocity…
Propagation of waves in weakly ionized two-fluid plasmas. I. Small-amplitude Alfvénic waves
David Martínez-Gómez
The large abundance of electrically neutral particles has a remarkable impact on the dynamics of many astrophysical plasmas. Here, we use a two-fluid model that includes charge-neu…
Observations of umbral flashes in the resonant sunspot chromosphere
T. Felipe, S. J. González Manrique, D. Martínez-Gómez +4
In sunspot umbrae, the core of some chromospheric lines exhibits periodic brightness enhancements known as umbral flashes. The consensus is that they are produced by the upward pro…
MHD waves in the partially ionized plasma: from single to multi-fluid approach
Elena Khomenko, David Martínez-Gómez
This Chapter outlines the basic properties of waves in solar partially ionized plasmas. It provides a summary of the main sets of equations, from the single-fluid formalism, to the…
