Tuning the MAPS Adaptive Secondary Mirror: Actuator Control, PID Tuning, Power Spectra and Failure Diagnosis
Jess A. Johnson, Amali Vaz, Manny Montoya +17
The MMT Adaptive optics exoPlanet characterization System (MAPS) is currently in its engineering phase, operating on-sky at the MMT Telescope on Mt. Hopkins in southern Arizona. Th…
Performance estimation of photonic integrated wavefront corrector for single-mode fiber coupling
Dhwanil Patel, Momen Diab, Ross Cheriton +3
Many modern astronomical instruments rely on the optimal coupling of starlight into single-mode fibers (SMFs). For ground-based telescopes, this coupling is limited by atmospheric…
Experimental demonstration of photonic phase correctors based on grating coupler arrays and thermo-optic shifters
Momen Diab, Ross Cheriton, Jacob Taylor +9
In ground-based astronomy, the ability to couple light into single-mode fibers (SMFs) is limited by atmospheric turbulence, which prohibits the use of many astrophotonic instrument…
ESCAPE: Efficient Synthesis of Calibrations for Adaptive optics through Pseudo-synthetic and Empirical methods
Jacob Taylor, Robin Swanson, Parker Levesque +6
With the commissioning of the refurbished adaptive secondary mirror (ASM) for the 6.5-meter MMT Observatory under way, special consideration had to be made to properly calibrate th…
