System Size Dependence of Collisionless Reconnection Rate
Yi-Min Huang, Naoki Bessho, Li-Jen Chen +2
It is a widely accepted paradigm that collisionless magnetic reconnection proceeds at a universal fast rate of when normalized to a properly defined reconnecting magnetic…
Kinetic simulations underestimate the effects of waves during magnetic reconnection
J. Ng, J. Yoo, L. -J. Chen +2
Collisionless plasma systems are often studied using fully kinetic simulations, where protons and electrons are treated as particles. Due to their computational expense, it is nece…
On the Effect of Driving Turbulent-like Fluctuations on a Harris-Current Sheet Configuration and the Formation of Plasmoids
Jeffersson Andres Agudelo Rueda, Yi-Hsin Liu, Kai Germaschewski +2
Energy dissipation in collisionless plasmas is one of the most outstanding open questions in plasma physics. Magnetic reconnection and turbulence are two phenomena that can produce…
Ohm's Law, the Reconnection Rate, and Energy Conversion in Collisionless Magnetic Reconnection
Yi-Hsin Liu, Michael Hesse, Kevin Genestreti +12
Magnetic reconnection is a ubiquitous plasma process that transforms magnetic energy into particle energy during eruptive events throughout the universe. Reconnection not only conv…
