From Rare Events to a Population: Discovering Overlooked Extragalactic Magnetar Giant Flare Candidates in Archival Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor Data
Aaron C. Trigg, Eric Burns, Michela Negro +16
Magnetar giant flares (MGFs) are rare, extremely bright bursts of gamma-rays from highly magnetized neutron stars. These events are challenging to identify because, at extragalacti…
GRB 250702B: Discovery of a Gamma-Ray Burst from a Black Hole Falling into a Star
Eliza Neights, Eric Burns, Chris L. Fryer +52
Gamma-ray bursts are the most luminous electromagnetic events in the universe. Their prompt gamma-ray emission has typical durations between a fraction of a second and several minu…
Fermi-GBM Observations of GRB 230307A: An Exceptionally Bright Long-Duration Gamma-ray Burst with an Associated Kilonova
S. Dalessi, P. Veres, C. M. Hui +22
On March 7th, 2023 the \textit{Fermi} Gamma-ray Burst Monitor observed the second highest fluence gamma-ray burst (GRB) ever, GRB~230307A. With a duration beyond 100~s, GRB~230307A…
GRB 241105A: A test case for GRB classification and rapid r-process nucleosynthesis channels
Dimple, B. P. Gompertz, A. J. Levan +85
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) offer a powerful window to probe the progenitor systems responsible for the formation of heavy elements through the rapid neutron capture (r-) process, than…
