Using the Wigner-Ibach Surmise to Analyze Terrace-Width Distributions: History, User's Guide, and Advances
T. L. Einstein
A history is given of the applications of the simple expression generalized from the surmise by Wigner and also by Ibach to extract the strength of the interaction between steps on…
Capture-zone scaling in island nucleation: phenomenological theory of an example of universal fluctuation behavior
Alberto Pimpinelli, T. L. Einstein
In studies of island nucleation and growth, the distribution of capture zones, essentially proximity cells, can give more insight than island-size distributions. In contrast to the…
Analytic Formulas for the Orientation Dependence of Step Stiffness and Line Tension: Key Ingredients for Numerical Modeling
T. J. Stasevich, T. L. Einstein
We present explicit analytic, twice-differentiable expressions for the temperature-dependent anisotropic step line tension and step stiffness for the two principal surfaces of face…
Correlations in nano-scale step fluctuations: comparison of simulation and experiments
F. Szalma, D. B. Dougherty, M. Degawa +3
We analyze correlations in step-edge fluctuations using the Bortz-Kalos-Lebowitz kinetic Monte Carlo algorithm, with a 2-parameter expression for energy barriers, and compare with…
