Post conjunction detection of Pictoris b with VLT/SPHERE
A. -M. Lagrange, A. Boccaletti, M. Langlois +102
With an orbital distance comparable to that of Saturn in the solar system, \bpic b is the closest (semi-major axis \,9\,au) exoplanet that has been imaged to orbit a star.…
Calibration of quasi-static aberrations in exoplanet direct-imaging instruments with a Zernike phase-mask sensor. II. Concept validation with ZELDA on VLT/SPHERE
M. N'Diaye, A. Vigan, K. Dohlen +14
Warm or massive gas giant planets, brown dwarfs, and debris disks around nearby stars are now routinely observed by dedicated high-contrast imaging instruments on large, ground-bas…
First light of the VLT planet finder SPHERE. IV. Physical and chemical properties of the planets around HR8799
M. Bonnefoy, A. Zurlo, J. L. Baudino +63
The system of four planets around HR8799 offers a unique opportunity to probe the physics and chemistry at play in the atmospheres of self-luminous young (~30 Myr) planets. We rece…
First light of the VLT planet finder SPHERE. III. New spectrophotometry and astrometry of the HR8799 exoplanetary system
A. Zurlo, A. Vigan, R. Galicher +70
The planetary system discovered around the young A-type HR8799 provides a unique laboratory to: a) test planet formation theories, b) probe the diversity of system architectures at…
