Laboratory verification of electron-scale reconnection regions modulated by a three-dimensional instability
S. Greess, J. Egedal, A. Stanier +9
During magnetic reconnection in collisionless space plasma, the electron fluid decouples from the magnetic field within narrow current layers, and theoretical models for this proce…
Regulation of the Normalized Rate of Driven Magnetic Reconnection through Shocked Flux Pileup
J. Olson, J. Egedal, M. Clark +7
Magnetic reconnection is explored on the Terrestrial Reconnection Experiment (TREX) for asymmetric inflow conditions and in a configuration where the absolute rate of reconnection…
Laminar and Turbulent Plasmoid Ejection in a Laboratory Parker Spiral Current Sheet
Ethan E. Peterson, Douglass A. Endrizzi, Michael Clark +8
Quasi-periodic plasmoid formation at the tip of magnetic streamer structures is observed to occur in experiments on the Big Red Ball as well as in simulations of these experiments…
An Observational Signature of Sub-Equipartition Magnetic Fields in the Spectra of Black Hole Binaries
John Wallace, Asaf Pe'er
A common assumption used in the study of accretion disks is that the magnetic energy density and the kinetic energy density should be in equipartition. This assumption relies on th…
