Linking distributed and integrated fiber-optic sensing
Daniel C. Bowden, Andreas Fichtner, Thomas Nikas +7
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) has become a popular method of observing seismic wavefields: backscattered pulses of light reveal strains or strain-rates at any location along a…
Sensitivity kernels for transmission fiber optics
Andreas Fichtner, Adonis Bogris, Daniel Bowden +6
Fiber-optic sensing technologies based on transmission offer an alternative to scattering-based Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). Being able to interrogate fibers that are thousa…
Introduction to phase transmission fibre-optic sensing of seismic waves
Andreas Fichtner, Adonis Bogris, Thomas Nikas +6
This manuscript is concerned with phase changes of signals transmitted through deforming optical fibres. As a first result, it establishes an exact relation between observable phas…
Microwave frequency dissemination systems as sensitive and low-cost interferometers for earthquake detection on commercially deployed fiber cables
Adonis Bogris, Christos Simos, Iraklis Simos +6
We experimentally demonstrate a microwave frequency dissemination system operating as a sensitive interferometric sensor of seismic waves on commercially deployed fiber networks in…
