Estimation of Magnetic Fields from Synchrotron Emission: Numerical Tests
Nora B. Linzer, Lucia Armillotta, Eve C. Ostriker +1
We use models of spectrally resolved cosmic ray (CR) transport in TIGRESS MHD simulations of the local ISM to produce synthetic synchrotron emission and to test, on scales from a f…
Cosmic Ray Magnetohydrodynamics: A New Two-Moment Framework with Numerical Implementation
Xihui Zhao, Xue-Ning Bai, Eve C. Ostriker
Cosmic rays (CRs) play a pivotal role in various astrophysical systems, delivering feedback over a broad range of scales. However, modeling CR transport remains challenging due to…
Modeling Cosmic Ray Electron Spectra and Synchrotron Emission in the Multiphase ISM
Nora B. Linzer, Lucia Armillotta, Eve C. Ostriker +1
We model the transport and spectral evolution of 1-100 GeV cosmic ray (CR) electrons (CREs) in TIGRESS MHD simulations of the magnetized, multiphase interstellar medium. We post-pr…
Energy-Dependent Transport of Cosmic Rays in the Multiphase, Dynamic Interstellar Medium
Lucia Armillotta, Eve C. Ostriker, Nora B. Linzer
We investigate the transport of spectrally resolved cosmic ray (CR) protons with kinetic energies between GeV within the dynamic, multiphase interstellar medium (ISM), usin…
