Doubly periodic textile patterns
H. R. Morton, S. Grishanov
Knitted and woven textile structures are examples of doubly periodic structures in a thickened plane made out of intertwining strands of yarn. Factoring out the group of translatio…
Integrality of Homfly (1,1)-tangle invariants
H. R. Morton
Given an invariant J(K) of a knot K, the corresponding (1,1)-tangle invariant J'(K)=J(K)/J(U) is defined as the quotient of J(K) by its value J(U) on the unknot U. We prove here th…
Mutual braiding and the band presentation of braid groups
H. R. Morton, M. Rampichini
This paper is concerned with detecting when a closed braid and its axis are 'mutually braided' in the sense of Rudolph. It deals with closed braids which are fibred links, the simp…
Mutants and SU(3)_q invariants
H. R. Morton, H. J. Ryder
Details of quantum knot invariant calculations using a specific SU(3)_q-module are given which distinguish the Conway and Kinoshita-Teresaka pair of mutant knots. Features of Kuper…
The Burau matrix and Fiedler's invariant for a closed braid
H. R. Morton
It is shown how Fiedler's `small state-sum' invariant for a braid can be calculated from the 2-variable Alexander polynomial of the link which consists of the closed braid together…
