Wave Steepening and Shock Formation in Ultracold Neutral Plasmas
M. K. Warrens, N. P. Inman, G. M. Gorman +3
We present observations of wave steepening and signatures of shock formation during expansion of ultracold neutral plasmas formed with an initial density distribution that is centr…
Expansion of Ultracold Neutral Plasmas with Exponentially Decaying Density Distributions
MacKenzie K. Warrens, Grant M. Gorman, Stephen J. Bradshaw +1
We present a study of the expansion of an ultracold neutral plasma (UCNP) with an initial density distribution that decays exponentially in space, created by photoionizing atoms sh…
Magnetic Confinement of an Ultracold Neutral Plasma
G. M. Gorman, M. K. Warrens, S. J. Bradshaw +1
We demonstrate magnetic confinement of an ultracold neutral plasma (UCNP) created at the null of a biconic cusp, or quadrupole magnetic field. Initially, the UCNP expands due to el…
Thermal and chaotic distributions of plasma in laser driven Coulomb explosions of deuterium clusters
M. Barbarino, M. Warrens, A. Bonasera +16
In this work we explore the possibility that the motion of the deuterium ions emitted from Coulomb cluster explosions is chaotic enough to resemble thermalization. We analyze the p…
