No evidence of vorticity production from irrotational turbulent gravitational collapse yet
Axel Brandenburg, Evangelia Ntormousi, Jennifer Schober
Gravitational collapse creates large amounts of kinetic energy that could potentially seed turbulence. If such turbulence were also suitable to initiate dynamo action, the resultin…
Cosmic ray heating of cold streams: Implications for the gas supply and growth of massive galaxies
Ellis R. Owen, Nicolas Ledos, Evangelia Ntormousi +3
Recent observations have demonstrated the presence of cosmic rays (CRs) in cosmic-web filaments. Cold streams supply gas inflows from these filaments into massive galaxies during t…
The dynamical origin of the magnetic field distributions in compressible turbulence
Evangelia Ntormousi, Fabio Del Sordo
Magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of isothermal compressible turbulence report that the density distribution is well described by a lognormal with a variance proportional to…
SIMPLIFI -- Study of Interstellar Magnetic Polarization: a Legacy Investigation of Filaments. I. Magnetically-Guided Accretion onto the DR21 Ridge
Thushara G. S. Pillai, Jens Kauffmann, Juan D. Soler +15
We present first results from SIMPLIFI (Study of Interstellar Magnetic Polarization: a Legacy Investigation of Filaments), a SOFIA/HAWC+ polarimetric survey of Galact…
