Uncovering the Next Galactic Supernova with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory
John Banovetz, Claire-Alice Hebert, Peter B. Denton +3
Supernovae are observed to occur approximately 1-2 times per century in a galaxy like the Milky Way. Based on historical records, however, the last core-collapse galactic supernova…
Rubin ToO 2024: Envisioning the Vera C. Rubin Observatory LSST Target of Opportunity program
Igor Andreoni, Raffaella Margutti, John Banovetz +86
The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at Vera C. Rubin Observatory is planned to begin in the Fall of 2025. The LSST survey cadence has been designed via a community-driven pr…
Generation of realistic input parameters for simulating atmospheric point-spread functions at astronomical observatories
Claire-Alice Hébert, Joshua E. Meyers, My H. Do +2
High-fidelity simulated astronomical images are an important tool in developing and measuring the performance of image-processing algorithms, particularly for high precision measur…
Characterization of atmospheric turbulence for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope
Claire-Alice Hébert, Bruce Macintosh, Patricia R. Burchat
One of the scientific goals of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) is to measure the evolution of dark energy by measuring subtle distortions of galaxy shapes due to weak gr…
