M. Montalto, A. Riffeser, U. Hopp +2
Context. On October 24, 2007 the periodic comet 17P/Holmes underwent an astonishing outburst that increased its apparent total brightness from magnitude V\sim17 up to V\sim2.5 in r…
Star clusters in the solar neighborhood: a solution to Oort's problem
H. J. G. L. M. Lamers, M. Gieles
In 1958 Jan Oort remarked that the lack of old clusters in the solar neighborhood (SN) implies that clusters are destroyed on a timescale of less than a Gyr. This is much shorter t…
TIMMI2 and VLT-ISAAC Spectroscopy of Circumstellar Dust Disks - A Spatially Resolved 3.3 micron PAH Feature Around HD 100546
V. C. Geers, J. -C. Augereau, K. M. Pontoppidan +4
We present preliminary results of spectroscopic data obtained with the La Silla 3.6m TIMMI2 and the VLT-ISAAC instruments. We have obtained 23 TIMMI2 N-band and 18 Q-band spectra f…
Stellar Abundances in Giant Stars in the Metal-Rich Globular Cluster NGC6528
Sofia Feltzing, Francesca Primas, Rachel Johnson
We present the first results of a detailed abundance analysis, based on VLT observations, of giant stars in the very metal-rich globular cluster NGC 6528. We will be able to tie th…
