NASA/NOAA MOU Annex Final Report: Evaluating Model Advancements for Predicting CME Arrival Time
M. L. Mays, P. J. MacNeice, A. Taktakishvili +11
The purpose of this project was to assess improvements in CME arrival time forecasts at Earth using the Air Force Data Assimilative Photospheric Flux Transport (ADAPT) model driven…
Why do solar wind models get it wrong: understanding the capabilities of time-dependent solar wind simulations
Evangelia Samara, Elena Provornikova, C. Nick Arge +2
We explore the capabilities of time-dependent (TD) magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) solar wind simulations with the coupled WSA model of the solar corona and GAMERA model of the inner he…
Improved Tomographic Reconstruction of 3D Global Coronal Density from STEREO/COR1 Observations
Tongjiang Wang, C. Nick Arge, Shaela I. Jones
Tomography is a powerful technique for recovering the three-dimensional (3D) density structure of the global solar corona. In this work, we present an improved tomography method by…
Incorporating Magnetic Field Characteristics into EUV-Based Automated Segmentation of Coronal Holes
Jeremy A. Grajeda, Laura E. Boucheron, Michael S. Kirk +3
Coronal holes (CHs) are magnetically open regions that allow hot coronal plasma to escape from the Sun and form the high-speed solar wind. This wind can interact with Earth's magne…
