Time-slicing spiral galaxies with SDSS-IV MaNGA
Thomas Peterken, Amelia Fraser-McKelvie, Alfonso Aragón-Salamanca +6
Spectra of galaxies contain a wealth of information about the stellar populations from which they are made. With integral-field unit (IFU) surveys, such data can be used to map out…
SDSS-IV MaNGA: Stellar Population Gradients Within Barred Galaxies
Amelia Fraser-McKelvie, Michael Merrifield, Alfonso Aragón-Salamanca +11
Bars in galaxies are thought to stimulate both inflow of material and radial mixing along them. Observational evidence for this mixing has been inconclusive so far however, limitin…
SDSS IV MaNGA: Full spectroscopic bulge-disc decomposition of MaNGA early-type galaxies
Martha Tabor, Michael Merrifield, Alfonso Aragon-Salamanca +5
By applying spectroscopic decomposition methods to a sample of MaNGA early-type galaxies, we separate out spatially and kinematically distinct stellar populations, allowing us to e…
SNITCH: Seeking a simple, informative star formation history inference tool
R. J. Smethurst, M. Merrifield, C. J. Lintott +7
Deriving a simple, analytic galaxy star formation history (SFH) using observational data is a complex task without the proper tool to hand. We therefore present SNITCH, an open sou…
