Dust Sensitivity of Absorption-Line Indices
Lauren A. MacArthur
We investigate the effects of dust extinction on integrated absorption-line indices that are widely used to derive constraints on the ages and metallicities of composite stellar sy…
M31's Heavy Element Distribution and Outer Disk
Guy Worthey, Aubrey Espana, Lauren A. MacArthur +1
Hubble Space Telescope imaging of 11 fields in M31 were reduced to color-magnitude diagrams. The fields were chosen to sample all galactocentric radii to 50 kpc. Assuming that the…
The Identification of Blue Horizontal Branch Stars in the Integrated Spectra of Globular Clusters
Ricardo P. Schiavon, James A. Rose, Stephane Courteau +1
A major uncertainty in the spectroscopic dating of extragalactic globular clusters concerns the degenerate effect that age and horizontal branch morphology have on the strength of…
Structure of Disk Dominated Galaxies: II. Color Gradients and Stellar Population Models
Lauren A. MacArthur, Stephane Courteau, Eric Bell +1
(Abridged) We investigate optical and near-IR color gradients in a sample of 172 low-inclination galaxies spanning Hubble types S0--Irr. The colors are compared to stellar populati…
