On finite simple images of triangle groups
Sebastian Jambor, Alastair Litterick, Claude Marion
For a simple algebraic group G in characteristic p, a triple (a,b,c) of positive integers is said to be rigid for G if the dimensions of the subvarieties of G of elements of order…
An L2-quotient algorithm for finitely presented groups on arbitrarily many generators
Sebastian Jambor
We generalize the Plesken-Fabiańska -quotient algorithm for finitely presented groups on two or three generators to allow an arbitrary number of generators. The main…
Determining Aschbacher classes using characters
Sebastian Jambor
Let be an absolutely irreducible representation of an arbitrary group over an arbitrary field ; let $χ\colon G \to K\colon g \mapsto \mathr…
Fast recognition of alternating groups of unknown degree
Sebastian Jambor, Martin Leuner, Alice C. Niemeyer +1
We present a constructive recognition algorithm to decide whether a given black-box group is isomorphic to an alternating or a symmetric group without prior knowledge of the degree…
Some word maps that are non-surjective on infinitely many finite simple groups
Sebastian Jambor, Martin W. Liebeck, E. A. O'Brien
We provide the first examples of words in the free group of rank 2 which are not proper powers and for which the corresponding word maps are non-surjective on an infinite family of…
