Autofib Redshift Survey: II -- The Evolution of the Galaxy Luminosity Function by Spectral Type
Jeremy Heyl, Matthew Colless, Richard S. Ellis +1
We determine the evolution of the galaxy luminosity function (LF) as a function of spectral type using the Autofib redshift survey, a compendium of over 1700 galaxy redshifts in va…
The Peculiar Motions of Early-Type Galaxies in Two Distant Regions. IV. The Photometric Fitting Procedure
R. P. Saglia, E. Bertschinger, G. Baggley +5
The EFAR project is a study of 736 candidate early-type galaxies in 84 clusters lying in two regions towards Hercules-Corona Borealis and Perseus-Cetus at distances $cz \approx 600…
Internal Kinematics of Distant Field Galaxies: I. Emission Line Widths for a Complete Sample of Faint Blue Galaxies at <z>=0.25
H. -W. Rix, P. Guhathakurta, M. Colless +1
We present measurements of the OII(3727) emission line width for a complete sample of 24 blue field galaxies (21.25<B<22, B-R<1.2) at <z>=0.25, obtained with the AUTOFIB fibre spec…
Brightest Cluster Galaxy Profile Shapes
Alister Graham, Tod R. Lauer, Matthew Colless +1
We model the surface brightness profiles of a sample of 119 Abell Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCG), finding a generalised deVaucouleurs R^{1/n} law, where n is a free parameter, to…
