Evaluating virtual hosted desktops for graphics-intensive astronomy
Bernard F Meade, Christopher J Fluke
Visualisation of data is critical to understanding astronomical phenomena. Today, many instruments produce datasets that are too big to be downloaded to a local computer, yet many…
Enabling near real-time remote search for fast transient events with lossy data compression
Dany Vohl, Tyler Pritchard, Igor Andreoni +2
We present a systematic evaluation of JPEG2000 (ISO/IEC 15444) as a transport data format to enable rapid remote searches for fast transient events as part of the Deeper Wider Fast…
Collaborative workspaces to accelerate discovery
Bernard Meade, Christopher Fluke, Jeff Cooke +13
By applying a display ecology to the {\em Deeper, Wider, Faster} proactive, simultaneous telescope observing campaign, we have shown a dramatic reduction in the time taken to inspe…
Are tiled display walls needed for astronomy?
Bernard F Meade, Christopher J Fluke, Steven Manos +1
Clustering commodity displays into a Tiled Display Wall (TDW) provides a cost-effective way to create an extremely high resolution display, capable of approaching the image sizes n…
