Abstract

We present measurements of the Nusselt number as a function of the Rayleigh number in cylindrical cells with aspect ratios ( is the diameter and the height). We used acetone with a Prandtl number for $10^5 \alt R \alt 4\times10^{10}$. A fit of a powerlaw over limited ranges of yielded values of from 0.275 near to 0.300 near . The data are inconsistent with a single powerlaw for . For they are consistent with as proposed by Grossmann and Lohse for $σ\agt 2$.
