Abstract

A sufficient condition for the existence of HNN-extensions in the class of groups of odd exponent is given in the following form. Let be a group of odd exponent and be an HNN-extension of . If then let denote the maximal subgroup of which is normalized by . By denote the automorphism of which is induced by conjugation by . Suppose that for every , which is not conjugate to an element of , the group has exponent and, in addition, equalities , where and ( is the integer part of ), imply that . Then the group naturally embeds in the quotient , that is, there exists an analog of the HNN-extension of in the class of groups of exponent .
