Abstract

Let be an algebraic closure of and let be a finite extension of contained in . Given positive integers and , the number of extensions contained in with residue degree and ramification index was computed by Krasner. This paper is concerned with the number of -isomorphism classes of such extensions. We determine completely when and get partial results when . When is large, is equal to the number of isomorphism classes of finite commutative chain rings with residue field , ramification index , and length .
