Abstract
The effective potential is considered in massless theory. The expansion of in powers of the coupling and of the logarithm of the background field is reorganized in two ways; first as a series in alone, then as a series in alone. By applying the renormalization group (RG) equation to , these expansions can be summed. Using the condition (where is the vacuum expectation value of ) in conjunction with the expansion of in powers of fixes provided . In this case, the dependence of on drops out and is not analytic in . Massless scalar electrodynamics is considered using the same approach.
