A Search for Muon-neutrino to Electron-neutrino and Muon-antineutrino to Electron-antineutrino Oscillations at NuTeV

Abstract

Limits on $\hat{I}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼\to \hat{I}{½}_e$ and $\bar{\hat{I}}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼\to \bar{\hat{I}}{½}_e$ oscillations are extracted using the NuTeV detector with sign-selected $\hat{I}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼$ and $\nub_μ$ beams. In $\nub_μ$ mode, for the case of ${\sin }^{2}2\hat{I}\pm =1$, $\hat{I}”m^2>2.6$ $\mathrm{e}{\mathrm{V}}^2$ is excluded, and for $\hat{I}”m^2\gg 1000$ $\mathrm{e}{\mathrm{V}}^2$, ${\sin }^{2}2\hat{I}\pm >1.1\times 10^{-3}$. The NuTeV data exclude the high $\hat{I}”m^2$ end of $\bar{\hat{I}}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼\to \bar{\hat{I}}{½}_e$ oscillations parameters favored by the LSND experiment without the need to assume that the oscillation parameters for $\hat{I}½$ and $\nub$ are the same. We present the most stringent experimental limits for $\hat{I}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼(\bar{\hat{I}}{½}_{\hat{I}}¼)\to \hat{I}{½}_e(\bar{\hat{I}}{½}_e)$ oscillations in the large $\hat{I}”m^2$ region.
