Observation of superconductivity in YPdGe, structurally same as MgB
arXiv:cond-mat/0102110
Abstract
The results of electrical resistance (1.4 - 300 K), magnetization (2-300 K) and heat-capacity (2 - 50 K) measurements in YPdGe, found to crystallize in a AlB-derived hexagonalstructure, are reported. The results establish that this compound is superconducting below 3 K. This obervation is interesting considering that this compound is the first superconductor among the ternary members derived from the hexagonal AlB structure. With superconductivity being uncommon even among binary alloys derived from AlB structure and with recent excitement on the observation of high temperature superconductivity in Mg, this finding gains importance.
