Abstract

Let be the ring of values taken at algebraic points by -functions. The exponential function and the Bessel function are classical examples of -functions. We prove that is not a field. More precisely, we prove that it is neither noetherian nor factorial, and construct non-units of explicity, including , , and for rational parameters and such that $0
