Abstract
We give negative answers to two questions of Farjoun about localizations of groups. For every odd prime , we construct a finite -group , an infinite non-nilpotent group , and a local embedding . The associated localization satisfies , showing that localizations need not preserve nilpotence and that the localization map need not be surjective when is a finite -group.
