Abstract

The alternating composition of weighted differential operators of strict order on the line is again an operator of order ; its coefficient is the universal constant times the Wronskian of the weights . Lie brackets of vector fields fix ; we want to find : e.g., or . Direct symbolic expansion (over permutations) fails for . Taking the monomials reduces the summation to the much smaller set of late-growing permutations. Expressing as a signed sum of products of falling factorials, we implement and speed up the algorithm that gains all the integer values up to . The resulting sequence is new, now registered as OEIS A392714; its (sub)leading-order growth rate is for , with .
