Quantized Hyperfine Field at an Implanted Site in PrPb: Interplay between Localized Electrons and an Interstitial Charged Particle

Abstract
The local effect of an interstitial hydrogen-like particle on localized electrons was studied in PrPb by means of spin rotation and relaxation. Spontaneous spin precession with harmonic frequencies was observed for the first time in electron compounds. We demonstrate that the signal is derived from a coupling between the spin and the hyperfine-enhanced nuclear spin of nearest neighbor (nn) Pr with Ising-like anisotropy. The signal also suggests a marked suppression of spin dynamics of the nn Pr in comparison with that of the bulk Pr. These facts strongly indicate modification of the electronic state due to the interstitial charged particle.
