arXiv:2609.20590

Abstract

Let be the minimum number of triangles in a tripartite graph with vertices in each part and minimum degree at least . In 1975, Bollobás, Erdős and Szemerédi proved that . They further remarked that it is ``very likely'' that for . They also proved that for all integers . We construct graphs showing that, for all integers and , \[ f(n,t)\le(1+\sqrt5)t^3+\left(1+\frac1{\sqrt5}\right)t^2. \] Here , and the displayed upper bound is strictly less than for every , disproving their proposed bound. We also improve their lower bound by showing that for all integers and .
