Ball Covering Property on Operators and Calkin Algebra

arXiv:2607.14879

Abstract

A Banach space is said to have the ball covering property (BCP) if the unit sphere of can be covered by countably many open balls with for each . If there are so that and for all , then we say that has the uniform ball covering property (UBCP). In this paper, we show that if has an -unconditional basis or is an -complemented subspace of a Banach space with a shrinking -unconditional basis, then the Calkin algebra fails the BCP. It is also shown that if has a shrinking unconditional basis with unconditional constant less than 2, then has the UBCP.
