Abstract
A Nikulin surface is the minimal resolution of the quotient of a surface by a symplectic involution . Equivalently, it is the -dimensional component of the fixed locus of the involution induced by on the Hilbert scheme . We study surfaces that are the -dimensional component of the fixed locus of a symplectic involution on hyper-Kähler manifolds of -type; we call them generalized Nikulin surfaces. We show that a projective surface is a generalized Nikulin surface if and only if its Néron-Severi lattice contains primitively the lattice . Moreover, we show that the transcendental lattices and , where is the terminalization of the quotient , are Hodge isometric. Finally, we describe projective models of generalized Nikulin surfaces of small degrees.
