Abstract

Let if is even and if is odd. We prove that for each , exactly odd integers in have the property that none of the iterates lies in the residue class , where is the -th Fibonacci number; the proportion decays at rate , . Equivalently, these are the odd for which no two consecutive terms of are even. The proof uses the directed graph of Collatz transitions modulo and its unique absorbing strongly connected component . Removing vertex from yields a subgraph of spectral radius , against ; the Fibonacci count follows from this spectral gap. We construct an explicit bijection onto the directed paths of length in . We further show that no vertex of is dispensable: removing any single vertex reduces the spectral radius strictly below , with hierarchy . In particular, every positive cycle of must visit residue class , and a flow conservation identity forces this class to account for more than of the steps in any such cycle.
