Abstract

We discuss, at a level accessible to a wide audience, including students and teachers of physics and mathematics, the fundamental transition from classical mechanics to wave equations made by Schroedinger a century ago. These historical events clarify the structure and significance of quantum mechanics and are of interest to the global scientific community. Valuable sources for further studies are provided throughout the article.
