Abstract

Let be a real or complex Banach space. Let denote the unit sphere of . For , let . A lot of Banach space geometry can be determined by the `quantum' of the state space . In this paper, we mainly study the norm compactness and weak compactness of the state space in the space of Bochner integrable function and -direct sums of Banach spaces. Suppose is such that is separable and let be the Lebesgue measure on . For , we demonstrate that if is norm compact, then is a smooth point. When is the discrete measure, we show that if and for all , then is weakly compact in if and only if is weakly compact in for each and . For discrete -sums, we show that for , is weakly compact if and only if for each such that , the state space is weakly compact.
