Evidence for shape coexistence in Sn from the first lifetime measurement

Abstract
The lifetime of the state in Sn was measured for the first time applying the fast-timing technique following thermal neutron capture. The mean lifetime of ~ps leads to a transition strength of , suggesting shape coexistence and a high degree of mixing between the and states. With the newly measured lifetime, the value is 0.50(7)~W.u., which reveals that the increases by a factor of from Sn to Sn.
