Abstract
Considering interatomic potential where is a vector describing positions, , it is shown that can be defined as a function of the interatomic distance variables , provided that the potential satisfies some symmetry assumptions. Moreover, the potential can be defined as a function of a proper subset of the distance variables , provided that , with the number of distance variables used scaling linearly with the number of atoms, .
